that mouse was regurgitated.

That's a regurgitated rat you might have a problem. Post all you know about the situation(Temps, cage set up, did you handle after feeding ect...)

I have an under heat mat on the left side and a 60 w reptile light a couple feet above the tank for extra thermo regulation and basically for better viewing. the hot side reads about 90 to 92(without the light it would read lower than that, probably about 85 degrees and several people on this message board have told me to ditch the light but i think it's doing just fine and i don't have problems with the humidity, and any reading material i have read recommended the light as well) and 82 to 85 on the cold side. 2 hides and a water dish. i also cover about 60% of the screen to keep the humidity in. i don't know what it's at, but my best guess would be about 60 to 75%. the tank is in my living room witch i hope wouldn't be a problem with all the noise traffic that goes on through out the day. plus she regurgitated the mouse in the middle of the night when she comes out and we're all in bed. this would be the third time she has regurgitated. i do not handle her for 3 to 4 days after she eats. this is after she has thrown up as well. i have heard of something called flagyl. what is it and where can i find it?

Do not feed her again for at least two weeks, her body needs time to recover.

melindaste May 24, 2007 07:39 PM

I thought maybe someone else might jump in. I wanted to also add due not handle her at all in this two week time. For now lose the light. Your temps on the cool side are not cool enough. I understand what your doing it for. The most important thing is to get her back on track. When they throw up they need time to get all the stomach acids and stuff back in order. Please invest 5 dollars more and get a hygrometer for the humidity it is well worth it to know what the actual numbers are.. Get her back to normal and then use the light for short times. She is probely so stressed.

You could try what Melindaste said leave it alone wait 2-3 weeks and try a smaller rat/mouse than usual but if you get anouther regurg I would go stright to the vet. Find a good reptile vet in your area and give them a visit. Someone else might be able to help you more but it could be a lot of different things and if this is a family pet type of thing you might be better off just going to a good vet.. GOOD LUCK and keep us updated.

Just a quick question... are you feeding frozen/thawed?

I noticed in the picture you have a stick on dial type thermometer. These are not that accurate and difficult to measure basking temps, whether over the UTH or under the light. Get a digital thermometer with probe, lay that directly over the under tank heater and take the basking temps there. Stick on thermometers can be off by as much as 20F.

I would also get rid of the light and cover the back and two sides with something, this way there are little to no distractions for the snake.

Also follow what everybody else has suggested, as its very good advice.

As for flagyl, this is a deworming product. It is not to prevent regurgetation, not unless a fecal done on your snake came up with worms and certain other internal parasites. Or it is a type of parasite itself...a little fuzzy on it right now.

Don't feed for 2 weeks and recheck your TEMP.'S Thanks David of DS Reptile Rescue

Wait atleast 2 weeks before you feed again, and make sure its a smaller meal. she needs to build back up or you will be takeing her to the vets...2 weeks thats the number one thing 2nd smallier meal, because of what happened alreday 3rd theres to much light, give her a good hide thats about 90 inside

She will be back on track in a month...!!
