Enclosure Size

Wendingo May 24, 2007 04:04 PM

Hi, Im interested in getting some cresteds and I was wondering about enclosure size. They had an article in Reptiles that said you could house 1M and 3F in a 20 long tank but after looking through some of the forum posts people were usually saying 18" wide x 18" deep x 36" tall. I have a 20gallon long and I question if keeping 4 cresteds in there would be adequite.

I would think something more like 30 gallons, and tall rather than long, for 4 cresteds. Probably more like 40 gallons if you want to be nice to them with regard to space (and who doesn't?). Of course, this is coming from someone who keeps a single leopard gecko in a 20 Long, so your mileage may vary...

the general rule is one adult for the first 20 gallons, and for each additional 10 gallons, you can put one more adult in. 4 geckos in a 20 gallon would be VERY crowded, but the 18x18x36 would be just perfect. if you have tons of hiding spaces and foliage, you could even probably fit a male and 4 females in there.
