How to keep - greens

keith_ecko May 24, 2007 07:08 PM

What is the best way to store different kinds of greens in the fridge? Seems like mine wilt like only a day after I get them..It's irritating!

I take a zip-lock bag and put several paper towels inside it. I wash the greens well and let them drain for a few minutes. I put them in the zip-lock bags so that the bag is not overcrowded. They usually keep for a week like this....some of the greens will keep even longer than a week.

I do something similar. I rinse the greens, lay them on a paper towel (separated, not stacked), and put another paper towel on top. I push down until I have most of the moisture off, cut up the greens and put them in a container. This has worked well for me...and it's cut and ready to go.

I have also heard that if you mist them with hydrogene peroxide they will keep longer aswell. H2O2 breaks down very quickly into its natural form which is water so its not going to have any negative effects. I have not personally tried this method as I have been experimenting with other uses for the stuff but I will be giving it a try here soon. Just a thought to throw out there. You can google uses for H2o2 and learn all kinds of fun uses for the stuff.
