I am thinking of buying a female...anyone know what the cage requirements are? Would a 10 x 3 x3 be large enough???

That's be plenty I'm sure they'd love ya for it. I think you could do 8' by 3' and they would be ok with that. Of course it depends on how much you let them out.

I'm just making sure because that might be the largest I can go and I wanted to make sure before getting the other one. Right now they are babies so they are in a 4 foot by 3 foot cage.
How do you let them roam when they are this small without loosing them???

Thanks

Nicole

Have you tried giving them access to their cage so they can go back and burrow if they want? Since mine where tiny I've let them roam as much as they want and they always crawl back in their cage within a couple of hours. At first they where cautious about coming out, they would follow the same path around the room venturing further and further. I always got the feeling that they where learning my apartment and where they could hide if they had to run for cover. One time Jazz found a particularly den like place under the oven and stayed there for a few hours, it might have been because I was cooking something and it was warm under there. I heard something in the kitchen and saw a tongue flicking from the hole so I blocked it off when she came out. After that she really wanted back in her new den but gave up after awhile. When I block off their cage so they can't go to sleep they'll start looking for a den in my living room. It seems like they're curious and they get real active. Then they'll go under my entertainment center or under a pile of clothes and stay there for quite awhile. I'll start blocking off places if I need to keep them up (if someones coming over to see them for instance). My apartment is pretty small so it's pretty simple, I might be singing a different toon when I move into my 3 bedroom house in a month!

If so, I apologize for my forgetfulness.

How big is that viv? It's beautiful by the way.

If your talking about the cage it's 8' by 2 3/4' with 2' being used as storage for now. My fiancee (Tuataras) did most of the work on it right here in the apartment! It's made out of boards precut by home depo. It looks even better with both the doors closed and the bracer in the middle, then it's divided up into 2' sections. The single pane of glass in the middle is 4' long.

The problem is that I have a 3 bedroom 2 floor house (not including the basement) and my herp room is not in a closed room (it was a dining room so it's all opened). When I move the room will be more secure and the tegus will be allowed to free roam within the room and go in and out of their cage...but for now given their size it's dangerous...not to mention the dog who thinks the current tegu is a toy
I need some safe room...for now I *might* let him loose in my bedroom...but I'm scared he'll sh*t on the rug.....
another possibility is the bathroom but it's small...I think I need a new house just for the herps!

I don't! LOL. Mine are almost a year and I still don't let them roam. I have too many places they can go where I can't find them. I use my bedroom because they can't really get lost there.
Take care,
Karen
