I found this beautiful 4 foot female just up the road from my farm this morning. She was only a few feet from where I found a large male last year. She would have been an easy target for someone driving a car, or for one of the local raptors that frequent that area.

Found a BIG 5 footer in Northampton two weeks ago. he had some pretty serious injuries consistent with an encounter with a hawk. Didn't really have the cage space but brought him home to see if I could nurse him back to health. Other than the actual injury sites, which were horrible he looked hale and hardy. I cleaned off several layers of unshed epidermis from the wounds disinfected the sites and have been re-cleaning and applying Neosporin daily. He's going into another shed phase now and I'm hopeful of some progress once he's done.

This is the second time I’ve done this, both times with big old males. The first one was when I was in HS and the outcome was not good though the injuries were much more severe.

Wow the male I found last year had a healing wound that looked like a hawk had ripped him open down his side, maybe the year before.

I found lots of big snakes with signs of old wounds, some must have been severe. I'm amazed at the resilience of snakes to survive wounds. Here's a female King I found last weekend. This is one of two old healed wounds on her body. This one must have been a doozy:
