When do you take the eggs out?

phiber_optikx May 25, 2007 01:54 PM

I was just curious how long the eggs can stay in the nest box before I remove them. I am worried that they will lay overnight and the eggs will freeze. The cool side of the cage is aprox. 72 degrees. How long could they stay before dying?

72.........she should have laid them in an area more like 80 ...

take them as soon as you think she is done.....or better when you actually KNOW she is done....

I usually look at her rear section and see if it is empty, IF I have already peeked in.....

don't bug her / them too much......

.......they'll be fine overnight

To have the box around 80 it would have to be directly on the heat pad. Do you recomend this?

heat pad should be a little warmer........84?......

........put nest right beside pad.......at the edge.....make it a little warmer......

they'll be ok either way......

.....you could have tried 2 nests even to see if she likes cool or warmer one.........my boxes are all the same temp so I never tried that........I just keep the whole room at 82 to 84.....more or less.........it goes up and down too much....LOL
