beardie personality question

keith_ecko May 25, 2007 07:10 PM

So I was handling my baby today for just a few moments and she tooks a couple small nips at my finger. I was just wondering if this is just typical maybe because she was scared or if this may be a sign of her personality for when she becomes older. Maybe she thought my finger was food or something. I hope she doesn't have a spunky attitude so I was wondering if anyone else's babies have done this and if so were they docile or did they keep doing it.

Babies will do this often. I wouldn’t worry about it too much. If the baby is turning dark on the belly or getting stressed out while you hold her I would put her down. Then what I would do is try to handle but in shorter periods of time. Most large-scale breeders don’t have the time to handle each baby like they should, so with a little tlc things should be fine.

is it a baby or a hatchling? I've noticed that hatchlings and very young babies will actually try to defend themselves from you, like if you are trying to gather them up so you can clean their cage. their defensive nature will go away if you handle them often. they need to realize that you are not going to eat them, which is probably the thought that crosses their mind everytime they see you.

Beardies taste just about everything, ofcourse normally this is just a quick lick but you may have had something on your finger that smelled or tasted yummy. As long as he is not chomping down on your fingers I wouldnt worry to much about it. Just continue to handle him.
