Leopard Gecko not much color... reason???

Voltron23 Aug 15, 2003 07:50 PM

I have had this Leopard gecko now for about 3 or 4 years, she is a full grown adult... over the past few months, I've been noticiing some changes. Dorsey is her name just thought I'd drop that in there. Well, I bought her as a baby, and she had beautiful purple and yellow all through her... lately she's been getting pretty dull. I was wondering if it was because she was shedding, but that's not it because she's been dull for about 3 months now. She continues to get dull, I was wondering if this is because she is getting old or something. She is housed in a 10 gallon tank, with a rock cave, sand... a heat rock, and a wooden cave. I'm not sure what it is, somebody please help.

i would hope its not from being old, at less then 1/20th of her life! all geckos are different, and geckos often change LOTS between baby and adult. this outta explain it.

That would mean leos could live for 80 years! lol anyway back to the question......
Is there anything that could be stressing her out? Sometimes when my leo is little stressed from moving her, cleaning her cage ect she'll get a little dull, that and when shes shedding. Thats all i can come up with.
On a different note......
You really shouldnt use hot rocks. under tank heaters work better and dont develope hot spots that can burn your gecko. You've been lucky after 4 years, but UTH's are a better choice. Good luck,
Mac

Hi, i dont have a leo yet, but i have 2 anoles, and i know that for any small lizards, HEAT ROCKS R BAD!!!. they form "hot spots" and because geckos nerves are deeper that humans, they dont realize the "hot spot" until they are already burned. please unplug the hot rock as they are very bad!.

ive never had a heat rock, my friend does though, and it works good for him. he wraps it in papertowels that he says will keep it from getting hot spots.
