Is anyone working with Cal Kings from states other than California? I've been working with Oregon animals for several years, they're great snakes. I'd love to see some from different areas of Nevada, Arizona, and Utah.

kerby, how far east do the cal kings go? i found one out of holbrook a couple years ago.
Near the New Mexico border.
I find them consistently around Winslow/Holbrook.
I think they have been found near Morenci/Duncan area as well.

p.s. I do not have any Arizona wild-caught cal kings in my collection. I just photograph them and send them on their way.

I'd love to see your Oregon Cal Kings.
Here in Redding - they are banded, 29 to 32 bands SV is what I've found (30-31 typically) - the cream is bone white down the spine but turns light yellowish as on the sides and belly. Kind of neat.
They are darker brown than kings I've seen from the SFBA and the valley, but you can still the brown in them - they aren't black like the desert kings.

3.6 L. getula californiae - 18 eggs (Cal. King)
1.1 L. getula nigrita (MBK)
1.0 Pantherophis guttatus guttatus (Corn)
0.1 Pituophis catenifer catenifer (Pacific gopher)
3.3 Elgaria multicarinata multicarinata (Cal. Alligator Lizard)
I'll have to post some photos. Both are black with yellow bands, and the offspring come out the same way. The male has extremely thin yellow bands, suggestive of what was once referred to as L.g. yumensis from Arizona, the female is more typical.
Here's one I found while road hunting in the Las Vegas Area. I don't keep Cal Kings though, I just took this dude's photo and made sure he made it across the street.
