Connecting two different heat tapes

Can you connect 3 inch and 4 inch heat tape and have them still work?

They'll work, but (obviously) the heat output will be different, since they pull different wattage. It will take a bit of arcane estimation and trial and error to regulate temps (find the happy medium thermostat setting) that delivers acceptable heat from both pieces.

Flexwatt is so cheap, I'd just get the size I want.
