Connecting two different heat tapes

Can you connect 3 inch and 4 inch heat tape and have them still work?

Yes electricity is electricity, it will work if wired correctly. Meaning wired in parallel.

Technically, yes they will both function; however, you will not be able to use one t-stat to regulate the temps between the two. They both will receive the same amount of electricity regardless of probe placement and temp setting, so the 4" will always get warmer than the 3".
