Connecting two different heat tapes

Can you connect 3 inch and 4 inch heat tape and have them still work?

I don't see why not as long as you use a good thermostat to keep them regulated.

i would hook the power cord to the larger first since it needs more wattage to run at the same temp as the smaller. If you hooked the cord to the smaller (10watts per foot) it may not allow enough current to reach the larger tape wich may cause it to run at a lower temp.

I am no electrician and this is only my hunch.

It will work but they won't run at the same temperature. The amperage and the voltage will be the constants. With the same current through the different tapes you will get different temperatures.

I would watch it very closely untill you get the thermostat regulated the way you want it.
