Today's Finds

run26neys May 26, 2007 09:12 PM

This morning when I let the dogs out, I discovered 2 large boxes on the porch. My new sanke cages had been delivered yesterday. I am in the process of buying another snake now, and I can not wait to go to the show on June 2nd - as I should have an open space to fill (unless I fill it before then).

Next week I will probably order a rack system, as I want to have space for any wonderful animals I may find. Once the brb's get bigger I will buy bigger cages for them. The brb's are currently filling the cages meant for my spotted pythons(when they become adults), and hopefully a pair of stimsons pythons.

Just now when I let the dogs out, I found this toad. I should learn more on what kind of toad it is. I just know, that there are lots of toads around my house, and when there are babies - I do not want to mow my lawn there are so many. Last year I bet I could have caught 200 in a single evening. Hey maybe I just figured out my get rich quick plan......

...what state are you located? They could possibly be oak toads if you live within their range. They are the smallest toads in the US.

I live in N IL - 2 miles from Wisconsin.

I was going to ask you where you are from, as you have a 0.1 Cal King. I have a 1.0 bay cal king. I myself am just starting to like the king's. My step daughter wanted one, as one of snake books said they make great pets. Despite the fact I was not into King's, we found one for her (and I will take care of it for life). The little thing has grown on me.

My step-daughter nad I got to watch it shed, and that was pretty cool.

...because my cal king, and yours maybe too, is like a bearded dragon in a snake suit. Slithers up when I go to the cage(not all the time but often). She even recognizes my scent and knows when not to bite...despite the fact I rarely handle her. But if she smells a thawed out mouse....WHAMMO! Then after she swallows she slithers up and follows me around as if begging for another mouse.

I'm concerned though. She's about 4 yrs old and 33-35 inches long(maybe moer...when I measured she wouldn't stretch out all the way) and is still about as thick as my thumb(I'm skinny) and her head is the size of my pinky tip. I hope the size proportions are ok. I know the length is fine.

By the way...I'm in NJ. I got my king at an expo for $25.

I had no interest in a cal king, but since my step-daughter wanted one we went to a show. The malfe we bought was $25 - like yours. It has never tried to bite, and it's eating response is impressive. Our's would be an early 07.

My step-daughter thinks we should get 2 girlfriends for it, as that is how I set up my male spotted python. The good thing is that she has now taken the male brb I get form Jeff Clark as her favorite snake, and I do not have any issues buying more brb's for mates.

...I'm sure you're very aware than ALL kingsnakes, cal kings included, are highly cannibalistic...
