OH NO !!! 2 SPECIES, 1 TANK !!!

BRONXBOY May 26, 2007 09:50 PM

I KNOW PEOPLE ARE GOING TO TELL ME THAT YOU SHOULD NOT DO IT !!! AND PROBABLY CALL ME A HERETIC FOR EVEN MENTIONING IT !!!!
BUT I WAS WONDERING HOW BAD IS IT ( ASSUMING OF COURSE THEY GET ALONG ) TO KEEP 2 DIFFERENT SPECIES OF LIZARDS WITH DIFFERENT ENVIROMENTAL NEEDS IN THE SAME TANK ?? I WAS SUPPOSE TO GET A TANK FROM A COUSIN OF MINE AND THEN HE SAID HE COULDN'T GIVE IT TO ME. NOW I HAVE NO TANK FOR MY NEW LIZARD AND I WON'T BE ABLE TO GET ONE FOR A WHILE. IS IT REALLY THAT BAD TO DO KEEP 2 SPECIES IN THE SAME TANK ???
PLEASE NO HATE MAIL !!! I AM JUST DESPERATE !!!

Sometimes it is accptable to keep two species in the same tank but it really depends on the species. Without knowing the specific species it is impossible to know how they would do together.

What about temporarily dividing the tank in half until you can get another one...or would it be too small?

BRONXBOY May 27, 2007 06:36 PM

ACTUALLY I DID NOT THINK OF THAT. THAT IS A VERY GOOD IDEA, EXCEPT THAT (AS YOU MENTIONED) THE 2 HALVES OF THE TANK WOULD BE KIND OF SMALL

just buy a temp tank, it doesn't need to be big or expensive. or keep one in your bathtub or something if you can't buy a tank. what are the two species? it's pretty impossible to tell without knowing both species.

STUPID ME, I GUESS IT WOULD HELP IF I MENTIONED THE 2 DIFFERENT TYPES OF LIZARDS. THE ONE THAT IS IN THE TANK ALREADY IS A BABY RED NIGERIAN UROMASTYX. THE LIZARD I WAS GOING TO PUT IN WITH IT WAS A COMMON BABY IGUANA (RED PHASE). THANKS

The difference in their enviornmental needs is extreme. One is a desert animal, the other is rainforest. For a short period of time, long enough to find the iguana proper housing, it may work but I wouldn't try it long term. One or the other would suffer for it. Just my thoughts.

You didn't like the response you got on the iguana forum, did you? Unfortunately, it was the right response. You shouldn't have gotten your new lizard without having the cage and everything set up BEFORE hand.
If you must, get a bunch of cardboard boxes and make a temporary enclosure. Just make sure it is big enough that your heating elements wont touch the cardboard.

At least this way, if you kill one, you may have spared the other. Why not return the poor lizard to where you got it and not get another one until you have everything in order?

PS: a tank for an iguana is a bad choice anyway.

Sorry to be negative, but it is how it is.
