Genetics behind Granite Spotted Python

SalS May 26, 2007 09:59 PM

Does anyone know what the genetics are behind the Granite morph in the spotted python? I'm just wondering if one is bred with a normal what will the babies look like? or will they be a het?

Granites are recessive so if you breed a Granite to a normal you will create all definite hets. If you bred a Granite to a het Granite however, the babies would be half granite, half definite hets.
Pictured here is a female yearling that is one of our favorites of our Granite group. She's part of an "ultralight" gGranite project we are hoping to get going starting next season. They certainly are cool little pythons with all the personality of a bigger species.
