First is this Desert Horned Lizard. Scooped him up for a photo and set him down in the same spot with his harvester ants.

Second was this SD gopher snake that was abnormally large for around here. Possibly an integrade with pacific gophers due to it's size. Nearly 6ft.

Oops, put the king in place of the gopher snake. The king was found early morning and was roughly 4ft.

Dang, that Gopher is good and HUGE! Range for Pacific Gophers (P.c. catenifer) begins a bit north of Ventura Co. I think. That thing's probably integrading w/ Great Basins (P.c. deserticola) which, depending on where you are in Riverside might be closer to you. Great photo. I like the King too.

It only had one set of fringe scales if that helps.

If you found the Gopher and Horned lizard in the same area as that king then that's a S.D. Gopher & Coastal horned lizard. Very cool finds. I don't see many horned lizards in western Riverside Co. Not in the areas I hunt.
