tadpole help

fliptop May 27, 2007 08:30 PM

Hi, tadpeople,

I picked up a couple tadpoles that are almost froggies and had a couple questions:

1. Do they need to eat anything at this point? Their mouths are going from suction cups to frog mouths.
2. Once they have frog mouths, what do you suggest as a diet? I was going to offer small crix and waxworms.
3. Will regular grocery-bought spring water be okay for them?

Thanks!

I forgot to ask what they are. I am guessing bullfrogs. They were in a tank with goldfish here in NY.

Thanks!

looks like either bull or green frog. they need no food at this point, they will absorb their tail providing nourishment. once they are down to about 1/4 of their tail, they will usually start looking for food. small crickets, earthworms, waxworms, mealworms, pheniox worms, and house flies will usually do the trick.

when they are going from sucker mouth to normal frog mouth they don't eat anything. as far as what to feed them, crix are good, but waxworms are incredably high in fat so those might not be the best thing to feed. plus you don't want to get them addicted to them early or cause obesity problems early either. any kind of bug you'de find outside they will usually eat, try to feed a varied diet so they are getting all the good stuff they need to grow. good luck!
