Question about Heating Vision Racks

gmpythons May 27, 2007 10:38 PM

I was wondering where you would place the probe for the Helix thermostat. Inside or outside the tub? Touching the heat cord or not?

Thanks

The instructions say not to overlap cords. I would go the store and get a cheap shoebox. cut a piece of the shoebox a little bigger than the probe. Affix the probe to the plastic, and then put the probe on the heat cord plastic side down. This should cause the temp that reaches the probe to be pretty close to what is in your tubs. Monitor the temps for a while and adjust as needed until desired temperature is reached. Good luck.

I have a vision rack and a Helix. My probe is in under the tub about 1/2" away from the cable, running parallel with the the heat cable.
Use a temp gun to check the tub temp at the hot spot. Adjust the probe location to get the tub temp and the helix to read the same,or as close to the same as you can.
Be sure the probe cannot move once you get it where you need it.

I must do it differently from everyone else, but, I put the probe in the front of one of the tubs, in the middle of the rack, and set mine for 86degrees, plus or minus 2. I have happy, healthy and good eating snakes in the rack, it gives them a hot spot on the back, and a place to cool down up front, and it clicks off when the room heats up.

I will ask a Question here. I also have a vision rack and would like to see pic's of yours and the placment of your prob. Not that i am wondering for me but for those that are a pic would be good.

Here is a pic of how I ran my heat rope the first time it is not that way now but I placed the prob touching the heat rope in the middle of the tub.

It's not a helix - but here's where I put my probe - next to the rope but not directly on it - I set my thermostat to 92* which generally gives me a hotspot in the tub of about 90* give or take.
