Saturday night...all night

MAD1975COW May 28, 2007 01:33 AM

Fellow herper Ian and I headed out about 10:30pm saturday night to check out some areas in east Orlando. We did quite a bit of herping in the Econ river area. We found an area with quite a few hatchling and juvenile alligators and spent some quality time with them and got some good pics. Ian was letting one of the little guys use his finger for a chew toy. It's good to see an animal that was in such peril make such a strong comeback.

The frogs were out in force as we explored a wonderfull wetland spot new to us. This set is a Bullfrog, Cuban treefrog, and a Southern Leopard frog. We herped the whole night through and watched the sun come up as we walked through the woods. I headed home very exited. A great night for herping even though we didn't see any snakes. We saw a few DOR but I don't count those.

Not a reptile, but still one of the coolest things I've caught on a herp trip, here is a baby cottontail rabbit. Lucky for me their defensive behavior involves running in circles. LOL. Well untill next time....Peace, TJ

LOL!

Now, why can't we breed that trait into some of the harder to catch species of snake! (running around in circles- haha!)

Well, a pair of cottontail rabbits could produce 350,000 offspring in 5 years, so they can afford to be stupid. I don't think the snakes we love would be around if they shared this trait. LOL. Cottontail rabbits = natures chicken nuggets!
