Just a question...are you holding the snapper by the tail? If so I'd thought I'd let you know that it causes them great harm to hold them that way, sometimes even killing them. Great pictures by the way.

That is not me holding it. However, we caught it just as it was going to cross a highway. We grabbed it as quickly as possible- at that point, I was more afraid of what vehicle going 65 mph would do to it than causing harm by grabbing it's tail. How exactly do you pick them up anyway? I never have had to do it.

With smaller snappers it's not as big an issue. But with heavier ones, the best way is to grip the tail and put your hand under the shell to support the weight. And yes I can definitly understand trying to get him off the road in a hurry. I used to pick them up that way too untill I found out what it does to them. Keep bringing in those great pics, TJ

Those are nice finds. I saw a DOR Blanding's turtle not too long ago in Wisconsin.

Very nice! I cant wait to find some decent herpin spots up here in WI. This northern herping is all new to me! So far I've herped CA, AZ, NM, TX, AR, SC, LA, MD & MS so this should be a nice change.
