Looooong Incubation!

I had a suprise last night....

I had a clutch of 19 Sambava eggs laid February 2nd, 2006. Last fall, 15 of them hatched, and were since grown up and sold off. 4 remaining eggs looked perfect and were large, so I left them alone. Well, one of them decided to hatch last night, almost 16 months after being laid! This is surely my longest timeframe for a panther chameleon, and the other 3 eggs aren't doing anything yet. They're spaced about 6" apart each (since all the eggs in between hatched back in September or so), and I still expect these to hatch, just don't know when. Here's a picture of this morning's baby.

Tyler,
Wow... are you trying to set new records!?!?

I wonder what the record for egg incubation is??? Well, regardless, you beat our long panther incubation: we had a nosy be go 1 year, 1 month and 2 days. All his other clutchmates were hatched together around 9 months.

Keep those pics comin'....

It's funny because I have this section for eggs that are overdue, but alot of the time after so long, they just eventually go bad. These eggs were bright white, nice and big, but in the back of my head, I didn't expect much out of them. I usually check my eggs about every 2 days, and I just happened to see a baby curled up against the side. It's doing well so far, wandering around. It has yet to eat, but I'm teasing it with food for sure. The other 3 I still think will hatch eventually, and I have a similar clutch of Ambilobes that are around 13 months right now. Most of them hatched in November or December, but there's still a few in there....

Hey Tyler, I had that happen last year with some Ambanja eggs. The main group went off, grew up and found new homes and I had six eggs left. Four of them hatched up to 15 months from the time they were first layed. Congratulations! Valerie.
