Misting Systems

jdg May 28, 2007 01:14 PM

I am looking for a good misting system. For now, it would just be on one cage (for a GTP), though I would like the ability to expand it to another cage or two at a later time if I wish. I want it to be quiet and effective. It should be as ready to use straight out of the box as possible as I am not technically inclined.

I've looked at several, but don't know what I should be looking for to make my decision. Any opinions between the Rainmaker, the Pro Mist, and the Big Apple misting systems? Or are there others thtat I should be looking at instead?

When it comes down to it, all the hoses, junctions, clamps, and even the nozzle's are the same. Well nozzle's for the most part. So what you are really buying in a kit is the pump, and that's the most important part. So if I was you, and I'm not, I would find the pump that meets all your needs, flow rate, nozzle capacity (for expansion), and the ability to run dry, are all important features. They are features you have to decide for your self.

For me ecologic and cloudtops.com has the best pumps that fit my needs, but currently I still use a garden sprayer. Some day when I have a true need I will step up to a rainmaker system from ecologic.

Best of luck

Take a look at BARRs (herpcages.com) - they have (or used to have, haven't checked lately) an inexpensive tubing/nozzle set there. It's meant to be hooked up to a clean garden sprayer (the type you pump up). It can also be used with a garden hose timer to spray at intervals.

I have this set in my GTP's cage - you just drill a few holes for the nozzles, which get pushed in and you can screw on the nozzle heads.

The garden sprayer and timer can be purchased locally, and as maintenance you just have to remember to pump up the sprayer to repressurize it now and again. A good inexpensive option, and it's pretty expandable, too.
