Crested refusing insects

Mr_Filth May 28, 2007 04:19 PM

Hi!

My ~3-year-old Crested gecko female is refusing to eat insects...
I bought her about 8 moths ago, and she's been doing fine with CGD (and babyfood every now and then).
Now she's laid 4 eggs, and starting to look quite skinny to me.
Just wondering, why is she refusing insects and if there's nothing I can do about it
(I've tried to mix mealworms to her babyfood - no gain), then how can I get her back to the fatty-side,
where she used to be?

Its normal to drop some weight from laying eggs.Without weighing prior its difficult to know wether shes dropped a significant amount or not.

You mention shes refusing insects but dont mention wht kind. Later on you mention mealworms .That culd be the problem.Cresteds react to movement and mealworms move slowly enough that many cresteds wont eat them.If you havent tried crickets that may be your problem.

If you have tried crickets and she ignores them it might simply be she eats enough CGD to be full,In younger cresteds that are slow to take crickets I have found leaving one or two in with a crested and they eventually catch on and begin eating them.

In either case ..I have female breeders that I almost never feed anything but CGD and have never suffered a unusual death or calcium crash . Chances are if shes just a bit thinner from laying eggs she will plump up again when the seasons over.

Keeping track of har exact weight will give you a good indicator of her overall health.

i would stop with the baby food all together. just give her the cgd. she doesn't need to eat insects. put a dish of pure calcium in her cage as well, she may eat from that.
