wrong perlite?

fliptop May 28, 2007 04:34 PM

I got me some Miracle-Gro perlite from a local store and saw that it is enriched with plant food.

Does this rule it out as incubation medium?

The bag claims the contents are non-toxic and sterile, though I'm supposed to wear gloves when handling it.

So, what do you all think?

Thanks!

"runs to check underwear over toilet"

HA HA HA! Its Schultz perlite. I have been using the same brand for the last few years with success so I was not that worried. I did use some peat Miraclegrow that had additives in it for a laying substrate. Its now resides on my front lawn.

Anyway, my underwear is clean.

The miracle grow is basically a nutrient suppliment for plants. This will also provide nutrients for bacteria and mold. You want an entirely inorganic perlite.

no, what you want is long fiber spaghum moss so you can hide the eggs under a moist clump. This is great for keeping the flies off of them and the moss has it's own bacteria killing acid in it. I know everyone has their opinion on what works best but honestly this stuff is the shiznit.

Rainer - love your quote, it really made me laugh.
