zoo-med 10.0 uvb question

keith_ecko May 28, 2007 04:56 PM

on my repti-sun 10.0 box it says mark the date of when you purchased the bulb some place on it and replace bulb 1 year later. Does the bulb last 1 year from the date you first power it up or does that mean from the date you bought it whether it's used or not? I wonder cuz what if the bulb sits in the store for a few months without being used. Does that affect it? I figure I should still replace the bulb like every 6 mos like I would the repti-sun 5.0 even though Zoo-Med recommends 1 year. I know these are stupid questions and another thing if the bulb is made exactly the same way as the 5.0 how do they figure the bulb will travel another 10" into the enclosure? Anyone study this???

Lots on this if you research.

They claim good for one year from 1st use.

That's the purpose of a forum. There's nothing that can be said on a forum that isn't in print or on the web somewhere else. The reason forums exist is so that people, newbies and experts alike, can discuss issues. It's like web conversation.

Well yea I understand that there is allot of this information I could research on the web and I'd hate to sound lazy or make excuses but I was looking at more of personal experience rather than to research it. I guess instead of reading a bunch of scientific language about UVB wavelengths that I wouldn't be able to understand anyway I thought I could get your opinions because if I researched it I would find 100 different theories or facts that aren't even true. Unlike some people I don't have lots of time to spend on here researching anyway. Between four kids at home and all the things that go along with that I just can't sit and read for hours on here like I wished I could. So I post in here because 9 out of 10 times I know someone who has experienced first hand the question I have and can give me a honest debateable answer. Sooo with that said I wonder what the point of this forum is if the only answers I can get is "RESEARCH IT"...I hope that doesn't sound sarcastic because I would never want to come off like that. When a question pops in my head the first thing I think of is "KINGSNAKE", not MSN OR GOODLE...Anyway I hope everyone had a safe Memorial Day and a great weekend!

Keith,

I'm not sure if I was completely clear in my post, but I'm agreeing with you. "Research it", in my opinion, isn't an answer that should be given on a forum. The whole point of a forum is for people to discuss things. We all know that google exists. This is a place for people to actually discuss things. If we wanted to "research it" with no discussion, we'd use google or the library.

yes there have been studies with all different UVB bulbs out there. do i remember what they said, no not off the top of my head. but i believe there is a bunch of info at www.beautifuldragons.com there is also alot of other info on that site you should read.

as far as UVB florescents go, yes date the bulb the day you start using it. it says 1 year, i replace every 8 months or so, just to sure, but i keep the old ones for emergency purposes if one bursts or burns out or something of that sort.

Thanks for replying...that pretty much was all I was looking for. I wasn't looking for a ton of info. Just answers to those couple general questions I had cuz most people in here either use flueroescents or MVB's..So I was just looking for biased opinions on personal experience. Thanks.

Hi
me result with the compact 5.0 of zoomed is not so good.
after 1 day all beardies got eyes shut and got welding eyes.
after 1 week they opend the eyes.
i already mail with zoomed europe but he send the light back while i asked to send a normal flurocent instead.
they told me i got the light to close buy and the licht need 7-10 days burning intime.
strange right buying a new light and first you need to burn it for 1 week.
i told him i wil buy from other brand if you not solf it on a normal way.
he told me in the new boxes a paper with be included with some warnings.
why not put it outside on the box??

i stil not heard of him so i wil go for the exo terra 5.0 and 10.0
i am now using them with good results.
