Pictus Breeding Group Question

nile_keepr May 29, 2007 01:34 AM

Im working with 3 males and 2 females (or will be within the next 2 or 3 days).

How would you guys house them?

Should I go like, 1.1, 1.1, 1 lone male; rotating the males?

Or would a 1.2, rotating the males work better? The problem I have with doing it like that is, Id have to house the 2 extra males seperate, as the males of these get aggressive as hell.

Im thinking of working it like this:

1.1 pictus, 20-gal long
1.1 pict. 20-gal long
1 male pict. 10 or 20 gal.
1 male leo. 10 or 20 gal.

Thatd be 4 cages (or maybe 3, 20-longs; one of which seperated into 2). I think I can work it so I have 1 lighting setup per 2 cages- the current temps here are about perfect for the pictus, so they wont need too much lighting just yet.

Does that sound about right? Over time, Ill be increasing my number of females (hoping to eventually get each of the 3 males I have at least 2 lady friends- total 9-12 lizards total before babies), but for right now I cant find a supplier for said females, nor do I really have the money to have another large group shipped out (place I got these pairs from got a shipment of 2 females and 18 males, lol, and would only sell me the females if I bought them in a pair, each with a male- so, instead of paying 60 for 2 females, I had to pay 120 for 2 pairs, and now have an extra, "useless" male for the time being. will make it a good thing later, hehe, but for now it was kind of a pain in my ass)

i dont know where you got your geckos but there is some place called sandhills reptiles or something like that, that advertises for pictuses. they advertise on the gecko classifieds. shoot them an email and they should respond promptly. good luck. o and i think however you work it it will work fine.
