Questions about mail order crickets...

beardiemom Aug 15, 2003 11:02 PM

I finally decided that I was ready to order a boatload of crickets. I ordered 500 from herpfood.com. They are about 100 miles from me, I ordered Sat and received Fri. That seemed a little long to me. Is it unusual for crickets to take that long?

On top of that, after I moved all of the crickets into the cage I had prepared for them, I removed all of the dead ones. I scooped out about a measuring cup full of dead bodies. There still seemed to be loads of crickets, so I didn't contact herpfood, but does that seem like a lot of dead crickets for an order? What is normal?

Last question: a couple of people have recommended Americancricketranch.com. Since they are close to me, they seem like a logical choice, but how much dothey charge for shipping? I really don't want to sign up and cancel an order at the last minute because they charge too much to ship.

Thank you for any answers you can provide.

Diana

Never had an order take that long. What kind of shipping did you choose? I'm not familiar with herpfood but some places will offer cheap shipping, and it's the same as if you put a letter in your box out front and put up the little red flag up. If you paid for over night shipping or second day you got screwed and would should go elsewhere next time. I order from reptilefood.com and they always come the next day never received an order more than 15 minutes past the due delivery time. You can call herpfood and find out what the hell went wrong and most likely if it is their fault you'll get a new box. Most likely since your order took so long a lot of the crickets shed their skin that's why it looks like so many died yet you still have so many alive. I would go with reptilefood 9 bucks for a 1000 can't beat it 8 bucks for 500 better off just getting the extra 500 for a buck more

they are about 4 hours from me and i get them next day regular mail. i get 1000 for 12 bucks i think?
yeah if you don;t have actual criket bodies it is most likely shed skin. the first time i saw crickets shed skin i though lord why are all my crickets dying. than it dawned on me the bodies where hollow hehehe
