Corn Genetics

Crittercrazy Aug 15, 2003 11:11 PM

As I posted before, I have an adult male corn. He's a sweet 5 foot Amel. Assuming that he's in good health (I think he is!) I am considering buying a female or 2 and possibly breeding him. I am not new to snake keeping, but I am totally new to breeding. I have a lot of research to do, but that's fine. I won't be buying females anytime too soon. I would, however, like to know what colored girls would create some nice babies with him. I don't know if he has any recessives.

I love candy cane corns. What would a CC and an Amel produce? Or perhaps there's something to breed him to that would produce Candies?

I'de love a basic 101 on corn genetics to figure out what pairing would come up with the most interesting babies. There are so many corn colors out there, it's hard to decide!

One of the best tools (& easiest...without getting into Mendelian genetics) is Micks corn snake progeny predictor...the link is below and its free to download.

I can't download Zip files. But I'm sure it's an awesome tool to use. So if anyone else has any info, I'de love to hear it. I think I'll repost this since this seems like a busy board.

Thanks again!
