that's a red x snakes...lol....the pic sould help...not sure what kind, but if it didn't have rattles, it's not venomous. My guess from what I know of Utah species, could be a gopher snake or striped whipsnake. Need a pic or description =)
saw the photo on the other post, definitely a gopher snake, act mean but are nice snakes, harmless too.
If you live in Utah the only venomous snakes you could come across would be rattlesnakes (unless a venomous snake escaped from the zoo). But keep in mind many snakes, if not most all large snakes you could come across in Utah will rattle their tails when threatened. I'm sure this guy did lots of tail rattling! Good job not killing it.
