im so annoyed

izora May 30, 2007 01:49 AM

stupid people shouldn't own any animals much less snakes, I had a thirty minute argument with an idiot because he insists that cornsnakes or any constrictor for that matter strikes. According to this genius a snake won't strike if it has venom. I made the argument that well snakes must strike their prey to hold on to it in order to constrict it. He says no, they just constrict. Last I checked, wild mice or any mouse for that matter is going to let a snake just give it a hug, come on! after a thirty minute conversation, he says oh well I've owned cornsnakes for a long time and if you go to fairs and things like that, you'd see they are very rare and only about twenty or so are ever seen in the wild, they are so rare that in fact only seven cornsnakes were collected in the wild last year in the entire united states lol. I'm so annoyed, I'm verbally bashed for owning a cornsnake which he assures me is actually a snake that should be eating crickets not mice and I'm horribly mistreating my animal because I'm under feeding my animal so badly. So annoyed, sorry just a vent about stupid pet owners. Almost made me want to say, so should I feed my dog rabbit food since it's got hair and has four legs? All four legged animals should be fed the same thing right? just like all snakes should be fed crickets. OK rant done, I'm ok now. pic of frosty, who might I add, is 100% snow cornsnake lol eating mice now for the entire three years of his life!

I know exactly how you feel. I have had several arguments because some people swear that they feed their corn snakes nothing but crickets and that that is all they should eat. Those types of people don't seem to understand that it's not even a natural diet for them. I would love to know where the person you talked to got their information from. I mean only 7 wild corns were caught last year? Yeah maybe in one day but not the whole year. Some people just don't get their facts right.

...breed and take care of their own children. Now THAT's scary!

jyohe May 30, 2007 02:48 PM

breeding may be done , even by accident (beer is bad)....
but they don't all actually take care of the kids either.....

........
.
.people are so stupid........

.......janitor at work got a corn....I think he found it at his house......amel....in Pa.....his wife sent a pic to his phone and I said yea....amel corn......his neighbor though , who has snakes, told him no.,,it's a boa constrictor.......his neighbor has a few snakes..,,,,I told him to tell his neighbor that I have hundreds and hatch hundreds of corns a year..........I bet the neighbor won't believe him.......

good luck

lol yeah similar thing happened to me awhile back also.

My soon to be sister in law has her daughters father(her ex husband) show me a snake to ID it as she knew I had dealt with snakes most of my life.

I'm then told by him, just before seeing the animal, that the vet or pet store owner(I forget which) who he showed it to said it was a boa. They also told him that it must be an escapee since boa's are not native to California lol.

Well it ended up being a year or two old pacific gophersnake. I then had to explain what it was, it's care, and how the guy he talked too didn't know his rear from a hole in the ground. Including that there are native boa's in california, just not big ones.

Anyways I feel your frustration.

Sean.

A guy my boyfriend knows at work started talking to him about snakes, because apparently some guy gave him a "boa"...he just says its a black and brown boa. He also thinks he will be able to control the size of the snake so it can fit the tank he has. My boyfriend said he wouldn't be able to do that, and this person replied that he could...he could just not feed it every week. Last time I knew, that was called animal ABUSE! Of course if you starve your snake it won't grow! But because YOU want to control the size of it? Some people really should NOT own snakes or pets of any kind.

I want to get the snake from this guy, but he probably won't give it up. At least I'd like to find a better home for it if I can't keep it.

Yeah, I think most of us can tell stories of conversations along the same line! It never seizes to amaze me at how stupid people are!! Most don't even make an attempt to know the truth, it's really sad. I've had many people argue with me on the ID of a snake that I'm 100% sure of. Off subject, I had someone argue with me a few months ago about the Bristol NASCAR race...they swore up and down that someone tried to pass in a turn, and that was what caused a wreck...they said that no one passes in the turns, that all the passing is done strickly on the straight-a-ways!! I mean, how do you argue with stuff like that!? I don't want to take up too much time to tell the whole story, but simply put they had absolutely everything wrong when talking about it, and I just don't understand how people can be that dumb! It is very very frustrating
