Half Dwarf Baby Update

artinscales May 30, 2007 08:26 AM

We have good news and bad news... three of the baby half dwarfs died within a few days of coming out of the egg. The remaining 19 are flourishing. They have all eaten at least one meal, frozen thawed pink rats.

The baby aggression has almost completely subsided within most of them, we are still working with them to get them over being jumpy when touched. We are quite pleased with the results we are seeing.

We ended up with 8 males and 11 females. One of the males has aquired a name... Static. This guy really needs a dryer sheet, he is sooooo clingy. He almost refuses to let go of your hand when trying to place him back in his box.

We will keep everyone posted as to their growth rates, etc.

Thanks for the progression pic's, I am very interested in the effect of the dwarfs genes on these snakes future adult size. Also their growth rates and other characteristics from the dwarfs genes. As in clingy do you mean like jungle carpet clingy, I do not know if you have ever handled this type of snake, but clingy is the best adjective one could use. I am looking for a comparison I can grasp to compare them too. Once again thanks for posting, great stuff!!!

It has been too many years since we had carpets. He doesn't hang on tight as if he is fearful of falling, he just doesn't want to go back into his box. He climbs back up your arm to stay with you. It is quite the battle to get him back in his box.

When he is being held, he doesn't try to venture off, just stays with you. He was the first one to show these traits, the rest of the babies aren't as determined to stay out. Therefore, we call him "Static". We had thought of calling him "Mr. Clingy", but our son came up with a better name.

I hope this is a better explaination of our terms of clingy. Let us know if you have any other questions.

Thank you for your comments.
