We took our daughter into Del Rio to see "Shrek the Third" . . . scheduled the 7:10 showing, but their projector broke and we ended up with the 7:55 showing. Which meant that my plans (the 277 snake hunting outing) got postponed until a bit later.
Headed up 277 after the movie let out at 9:45 . . . found a DOR Ground Snake just north of Del Rio. We arrived at the blinking light at about 10:20-30. Aside from the giant spotlight in the sky (moon), conditions seemed really good - nice breeze, good temps, recent rain, etc. We made one pass up to 2 mi N of Loma Alta, burning cuts all the way. Found a juvie Bairds rat at the north end of the big L.A. cuts on the way up, and a juvie Blacktail AOR coming back down at the stair-step cuts. Had to come in for my final teacher-work-day today, so I called it a night after the one pass.
Left the camera at home (not on purpose, since we were leaving straight from work, and my parents were bringing Cheyenne in to us, they were supposed to bring it in) so don't have photos of the Blacktail. I held onto the Bairds (temporarily) for photos, will be releasing it later.
Only one other hunter out that I noticed (RAK). I really think that had I been able to stay out all night, my chances of finding an alterna would have been pretty high. I'm sure if there were more cars out, one would have been caught last night.
