Hypo coastals hatching

Tony D May 30, 2007 07:36 PM

The first clutch is out. 5 of 6 hatched after 43 days. The last, a hypo, went to term and failed to break through the egg. I used to lemment this type of thing but I've come to think of these as weaker animals that likely saved me and or someone else the trouble of raising a less fit animal. Anyway two hypos three definate hets. Two more clutched totaling 13 more eggs on the way. Pics to follow.

PS watching these jewels hatch kicks _ _ _!!

Congrats... They are beautiful snakes. If they didn't hatch so small I would love to have a few.

Is 43 days the norm for them? Seems kind of short.

They are small but not difficult to work with IF you don't produce a blue million of them, 20 or so seams to be my limit. I'll spend about 2 hours a week for 6 - 7 weeks working with them before the majority are taking f/t pinks and ready to move.

They do have a short incubation period. Without looking it up I'd say the average is right around 45 days at 82 degrees f.

I'm putting together a basic table of incubation times for various NA milks. It seems to me that the more northernly forms have a shorter incubation time and I'm making an attempt to quantify that. If you don't mind, I could sure use your hatch data for temporalis as I don't work with them. How many clutches are you counting on this season? Feel free to e-mail the reply.

Thanks
-Cole

That might take some time. I keep notes but they are a bit haphazard! I expect three clutches this year.

Cool!
Any Currituck locales?

Awesome.

Hypo coastals are sweet. I might have to get into them one day. I figure if I can raise ringnecks, these should be easy for me.
