help setting up a rubbermaid?? any pictures wold be great

flammingcat Aug 16, 2003 01:15 AM

I have read all the care sheets I can find so I have the temps and all that down pat, but I got on here, and read a lot of people prefer rubbermaids, so instead of doing a neat tank set-up I figured I would go with a rubbermaid, can someone post some pictures of theirs, top and inside? I'm a little confussed on how the heat wouldn't make the rubbermaid too hot? He will be a baby, he was born July the 1st, any idea's would be really helpful, I'm not bringing him home untill I have everything just right, SO I want to get it all started so I can work with the temps and the humidity, I figure I'll work on it for awhile make sure the temp and the humidity stays the same for about a week then I'll bring him home, sound good?
Thanks hor anyone's help
Shannon

Shannon,
I keep my babies in shoe box sized rubbermaids. I use regular heat pads but only a 1/3 of the container is placed over it, set at low. Newspaper on the bottom. Fill half the container with well dampened moss which is placed over the heat pad. I use small clay, shallow, dishes (what the pot sits in to catch water) as a hide (carefully knock out part of the side for an entrance)on the cool side. Change the newspaper frequently as it will get sodden. If you get any mold, clean the container with a weak bleach solution, rince thoroughly and start with fresh moss. You can move them into bigger rubbermaids as they age. My adults are kept in a large display (6'Lx4'Hx3'W). They do like to roam about at night and love to climb.
