What Do You Think Will Hatch From These?

latin1956 May 30, 2007 10:14 PM

These eggs are the result of breeding a pair of Honduran Het for Tang Albinos 50% Possible het Hypo, I got from Terry Dunham, at the Daytona Show in 2004. These eggs are huge comparing to the size of the female. So what do you guys and gals think will hatch out?????

AA Battery place for size comparison. Please post what you think??

Thanks
Tom

You guys are to much LOL!!! What I meant was as far as getting Albinos, or possibly a Hypo or a Hybino. But all the same will wait to prove them out and hopefully be surprised.

considering that it's way past my bedtime, here's what I think the odds are. First off, I am assuming as you said that both parents are in fact 100% definite het albinos. The question now is if each one is a true het for hypo.

So scenario one: each is definite het albino and each one is also definite het hypo. What you will get here is a 25% chance of having hatchlings that are VISUALLY albinos. And of those albinos you get, each albino is a 25% chance of possibly being a hybino. You only have an 18.75% chance of getting visually hypos and of those hypos, each hypo has a 67% of poss het albino.

Scenario two: each is definite het albino and only one of the parent is a het hypo. No chance of getting hybinos. You will have 25% chance of getting a true albino and of those albinos, 50% is possible het hypo.

Since you really do not know the "definitiveness" of each of the parents "het hypo" status, the parents or the offsprings will have to be tested with different mates.

If I were in your situation, i would have paired each one to a hypo before and see if any hypos will come out. Then each one would have proven out to be definite het for hypos. But you know what, if any of the hatchlings come out as a true hypo, then scenario one works because you would also have proven each parent to be definite het for hypo.

Good luck to you Tom.

I spoke to terry Dunham, last night and he said the same thing. I will try and prove out the Hypo gene next year. I just wanted to see how the Albinos come out.

By the way that is a beauty of a Tangerine Albino. What was your set up for taking the picture? I also have a Tang Albino and can not get his true colors in picture. I do have a Canon Rebel XI and will be getting a flash and a macro lens today, to see if I can capture true colors

Thanks again for your coments.

I'm using a Sony DSC-H2 6.0 megapixel that is 12X optical. That is why I was able to get a real close up without being physically near it by just zooming and getting clear pics. I usually use the manual mode so that I can measure lighting/exposure but I was so damn lazy that night (LOL) that I just used the switch called "low light no flash" and to my surprise as well, it came out just fine.

I heard great things about the Canon Rebels. That's even more exciting once you have the macro lens and the flash. Keep the pics coming!

Hope you get those gorgeous albinos you are looking for in that clutch. My tangerine albino is just a little less than 2 years old although of breeding size. I tried breeding her this year and she's showing some swelling but am concerned about her mate (which is her sibling) because he is also less than 2 years old and might be shooting blanks. Nonetheless, here they are mating. I took a pic of them through the glass cage so it's the best clear shot considering the glass cage was kinda smudgy.

Thanks.

Ray

Tom, most of the time capturing true colours has to do with white balance. Try using TUNGSTEN white balance if you are shooting under incandecent lights or using FLORESCENT if you are shooting under florescent lights. Also, you can take a white sheet of paper and make a custom white balance for those particular shooting conditions.
