Whatever happened to SAWBACKS

Jeff Schofield May 31, 2007 11:00 AM

I apologize for not being more knowledgable here, but I have always liked the sawbacks and have room to add some turtles so I am interested. Can someone explain the renaming, etc of maps because I see pearl river maps, etc and have no idea what is what. Protective status would also help as I want to remain within bounds. Thanks,Jeff

The irony is back in the day we had a lot of turtles for cheaper prices because no one knew what they were Pearl rivers black knobs & a few other now hard to find species make up the group of sawback maps. Thing is if we only had those turtles now. I'm not sure as knowledge is more widespread now the nback then but but species like G. oculifera, G.Flavimaculata which are now rare probaly were included in those under four inch turtle babies we found in every woolworth's. You can go to Graptemys.com for more info. on map turtles
