Go check out the Herp Law and CITES forum and get involved if you don't want your right as a herper/snake keeper to be infringed upon.
If it happens in Texas, it will follow elsewhere. Like someone once said, "The door to permissiveness usually only swings one way - wider."

I think the battle might be over with. The governor's veto would only be symbolic at this point I fear. They took the expired bill and added it as an amendment to another bill; HB12, about TPWD that no one would want to oppose. At least they had the compassion to add the bill as the amended version which did not include ball pythons; non-native venomous, african rocks, burmese, retics, green anacondas, and indian pythons will require yearly purchased permits. They deliberatly screwed herpers in Texas by adding the unamended version of HB2414 which bans roadside hunting. I doubt TPWD has the resources to enforce either bill imho.

What about super dwarf retics that stay under six feet and dwarf burms? You can still keep 8-ft. boas, then why not an even smaller dwarf python. It wasn't smart too lump all those together. Exceptions to the rule will arise as they already have.

"I'm not happy about it at all," said neighbor Phyllis Lynch. "I have pets. I have kids. Everybody in this whole neighborhood has kids and pets."

The old granny is worried about the neonate ball pythons injuring the kids. She should be more worried about her 20 tabby cats running amuck. I wanna see a news story about Phyllis and her life threatening felines.

Lol, I actually used that sort of analogy once when someone asked me if getting bit by one of my snakes hurt. "I'd rather get bit by one of my snakes than scratched or bit by one of those cats."
I was at a shelter talking to a volunteer at the time. I'd definately rather get bitten by my biggest ball than bitten by a dog of any size.

Is she dilusional?

I really wish people would do a simple Google search before opening their mouths. I just had to deal with an "anonymous" neighbor of mine sending a letter to my landlord and the police about my ownership of ball pythons and how they are an "imminent danger to the community". I sent a letter back to all of my neighbors giving them facts on ball pythons, how I have them housed, and included pictures of everything. My landlord doesn't mind my snakes at all, and I invited a police officer over here to view them for herself, and she agreed that they pose no threat. I think people need to educate themselves before getting up in arms about something so unnecessary.

I sent a letter to Phyllis Lynch, who was the neighbor making those ignorant comments. It was a polite, factual letter including information on how harmless ball pythons really are. I recieved a response today, and apparently the guy responsible for the escapees is Jeff Doth -- and if you Google him, he's quite the douchebag.
