very cool and informative....
I second that - about time info got out here on husbandry, what with the growing number in captivity. Only quibble - could've/should've used the widely accepted modern generic name Dipsochelys, with either dussumieri or whatever specific name you prefer....
I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I bought your Russian book as well. Also very cool. Ever coming out to the east so I can get a signing?
I now live in Georgia. I do take trips up to NY and down to Florida on a regular basis.

You go to NY for expos or what?
I'm out in Massachusetts, but I wouldn't mind taking a trip someday...
I have a sister in law in White Plains, NY so I try to schedule visits around the White Plains reptile show.

OK I've just stepped out of my cave... what article are you talking about & in what publication?
Not one person has mentioned that...
Thanks...stepping back into my cave to get out of the thunderstorm
It's an article on Aldabra tortoises in the August 2007 issue of Reptiles Magazine.
I'd like to mention that I've also got an article in the Reptiles Annual for 2007. I only mention this because it is not available by subscription and is only available in retail outlets. I think that comes out in September or October.

Thanks. I will have to check it out.
What is the article in the Reptiles annual about?
The article in the annual is on Greek tortoises.
I don't think I'd write an article on the padlopers because I don't have much experience with them but that's never stopped me in the past.

Hey it would be a great excuse for an interesting trip.
Plus you would be supplying much needed info on this elusive group of torts... not that they will ever be readily available in the USA.
So when are you going to do an article on the S. African skilpadders?
I read your article. What a great article by the way. You mentioned the powdered kelp would help prevent and iodine deficiency but you said that it is easily overdosed. So, how do you determine how much one needs?
I'm glad you liked it.
I mentioned the iodine deficiency more as a historic note than anything else. This does not seem to be such a problem today.
It's interesting that you read it that closely. I think you found the only typo in the article. It should have read 'as' instead of 'and' meaning that it is more difficult to overdose a supplement if it is given in a natural form. So, if you do use kelp you really don't have to worry about the quantity unless, of course, you take it to an extreme.
It is iodine directly that is easily overdosed. Sorry about the clarity.
