egg problems question?

snakito May 31, 2007 09:59 PM

ok so when my coastal laid her eggs she was like lying ontop of them instead of coiled around them and they were slightly dimpled from that but all seemed fine. they are all in the incubator and all candled to be nice and fertile besides a few that i couldnt get a 100¬urate reading on since it looked like they all had blood vessels and were red but some had a yellowish hue to them but those were the ones that were dimpled in more and couldnt put the light tight against. now 2 of the eggs that were like that are even smaller now but the rest are fine. is there anything i need to worry about or what this is my first time ith the carpet eggs they are incubationg at 88 degrees with the no substrate method and there is more than enough humidity in there.

Slight dimpling is fine. Not a problem. In fact, I think in general it is better to have them too dry than too wet, but in your case it sounds like it just came from how the female was coiled on them. Anyway, shouldn't be anything much to worry about. If the yellow eggs start molding etc. then you might want to remove them...but that is up to you. Normally bad eggs don't affect those around them, but every once in awhile they may. But you for sure don't have to worry until they start getting real moldy, then you can make that decision. Good luck with them, and make sure to post some pics of the eggies and the happy parents when you can!!!

Oh yes, I did see those pics, but must have been on a day I was in a hurry That female is pretty nice, I like her a lot actually.

As for the twin jags, they are doing great. They are eating well and catching up to their clutchmates. Also, the pair of twin sibs are coming along nicely as well. Fun little buggers. They have been out long enough now that many of them have gotten their attitudes, so feeding and cleaning is a bit more entertaining now Well, good luck with your clutch, and keep us updated!!!
