Using Carpet?

mannyrottie May 31, 2007 10:25 PM

I am using carpet in my balls enclosure. How would you guys advise keeping the humidity level where it should be. I was told to place the UTH near the water bowl and the evaporation should cause the humidity to remain where it should be. I have a hygrometer to check on things. Also anyone have any type of branches for their balls. I do not know if I should leave the driftwood in the tank or remove it and give the snake some open space. She has a hide box on the other side of the tank.

Use a hidebox on both sides of the enclosure. You may want to add a humidity box (tupperware filled with wet moss or paper towel, with a hole cut into it for entrance).

I have never used astroturf in a snake enclosure. I always use aspen or newspaper with my balls, so much easier!

Who said I was gonna clean it? I'll just toss it when its to for a new one.

That works too but news paper or paper towels are cheaper. Also carpet seems so rough. I just dont like it.

Astroturf Is a bit rough (unless you are talking reptile carpet). You can get 2 or 3 peices and replace and clean in between
as for the hide... You will Need 2 hides (identical or similar) small enough for it to be snug around your Snake. This will provide the security your snake needs. One on Each side. One to be placed where the UTH under your enclosure is, and one on the Cool Side.
You move the Bowl Not the UTH. Moving the UTH can damage the heat coils and or short out the unit.
Try adding some moist moss in like a small ceramic bowl near the UTH.
Spaghnum moss I have heard works well.
Aspen bedding is used by most snake owners (for all snakes).
No Cedar or Pine (they are Toxic to all snakes).
