My first ever Sonoran coral spotting in the wild....Couldn't get a good head shot because as soon as he knew he was spotted he hightailed it! Cool nonetheless....

Another shot, a bit closer....

Simply awesome! That's an incredible sight and hard work and spending lots of time in the field pays off. Nice job!

Though I've yet to see one of our native corals in the wild (the Arkansan version of the Texan variety) I can say it's too bad they don't have such vivid colors. That's pretty spectacular. Something about that suggests that it would be an animal more likely to be seen in captivity after years of 'refinement,' rather than naturally occurring in the wild. Great find.

Thanks Chance...Yeah, I was pretty stunned...He was in a wash and we had just taken a short break from hiking when I stumbled upon him...almost didn't look real. Needless to say I was quite giddy after finding him.
Awesome find!!! Thats a great observation Chance. I must say it's a similar thought I've had about them but just couldnt articulate it externally. It looks like a discarded child's toy.
Thanx for sharing the pic!

great find. The only one i ever found was coming down the hill on 17 at 60mph. Took us a while to run that back up the side of the freeway.
