HELP! SICK BEARDIE

bob_the_snowman Aug 16, 2003 09:18 AM

hello, we have a 4 month old beardie who was having seizures yesterday. We took him to the vet and they gave him some calcium injections along with electrlyte and an antiobiotic. I read that it could be a possible Calcium Deficiency, or his food could have been to big. but when i looked up the symptoms of the to big of food all it said was that their hind legs go paralysed, every now and then he just stiffens up and looks like hes dead, and then comes back to life. Any suggestions!?

First of all, what are you feeding him? Do you dust his food with calcium powder once every day, and does he have a UVB light? If one of these things are missing, you have most probably inflicted him with calcium deficiency, and the vet did the only thing he could do. Give him a calcium injection.

About the big food-thing, usually the legs get paralyzed and the beardie is unable to move them. Your pnoblem does sound more like a calcium deficiency.

Large prey will make them go stiff on and off and also drag their head and face in the substrate. I would give luke-warm baths and increase temps. Also try Vitamin B.

I would maybe try another Vet's opinion too. MBD usally starts with "toe-twiching".
