Very pretty!
They are great redfoots for sure.
Make sure you treat with panacur and flagyl or have a good vet do so!

Got him on Thursday, not sure if toothbrush and dish detergent is the way to go. Please advice.

He was a bit shaky when he arrived. So I didn't want to scare him too much by a though clean up.

Tell me the best way to clean him up. His ex-owner didn't pay much attention to tortoise hygiene.

Just don't go nuts and try not to get it in the eyes. They will almost always poop during this (it is stressful I'm sure) so this is a good way to get that stool sample for a vet.
That is a really nice looking cherryhead!

Mayday,

Thank you very much for your encouragement and advice. It's a lot of help for a newbie.

I have a question for you: Do you know if I can obtain a license to purchase redfoot from Brazil. BTW, I'm in Colorado. Do I have to run this kind of business or I can apply for one just as an hobbyist?

How much would that cost?

Thanks in advance for the info.

But you will quickly find that the cost and hassle are not worth the trouble!
You must obtain CITES documents, get a broker, etc, etc.
If you are only looking for one tortoise I would recommend getting one from somebody like Ed Pirog (EJ) or a captive hatched one. There are some around. This is much easier!

Carl,

Thank you so much for all the info. But I'd still want to give it a try. Maybe I'll stop half way, maybe I'll push it all the way through.

I'm really into the colors. The Chelonian farm of Santa Cruz in Brazil told me that they still have great colored cherry heads above 4".

So, please tell me what's the first step to get it rolling. I'm in Colorado. Calling local Department of Agriculture to obtain a license?

Thanks a lot!
