What are they like? I have never had one although I have had several Colombians and True Redtails. Are their care the same? Do they darken a lot with age? How large do they get?
Thanks,
Dan

Probably one of the most difficult of the available boas to keep properly and breed. Not very forgiving to mistakes, your care has to be right on.
My Orange Crush.

The female chosen for the lucky OC male. The finest amarali I have ever seen.

As you can see, not all darken with age, though MOST do. Those two are from very selective bloodlines.

I have 2.3 Bolivian Amarili and have never had to do anything special for any of them, Their in the same snake rooms with all the other boa's and all do just fine. I have heard babies can be more prone to regurg but I got all mine at 1 to 2 years old, so I don't know about that. Maybe that is what Chris is talking about. To me they seem to be underrated, all of mine are very tame even though they are are only handled on cleaning day, They are nice looking,That PIC Chris posted clearly show's some are smoken. they don't seem to get as big as some other boa's my 8yr old pair is, Fem.7ft. Male 6ft. and they are not that expensive so I'm surprised there is'nt more of a demand for them

Mine are also kept in the same room with my other boas, all the cages are regulated with individual digital proportional thermostats.
Basically amarali need good controls for their environment. I doubt you'll ejoy them much using a glass tank and a heat lamp. Plastic cages with flexwatt and well controlled to keep a good gradient will prevent problems. If you try short cuts with these guys something could happen.
I got my OC as a baby, couple months old, and the Blonde as a yearling.
One big thing with amarali is to TAKE IT SLOW with feeding. They do not mature as fast as other boas either. My girl born in '03 and the male in '04 MIGHT be ready this year. If they were imperator they would have had one or two litters by now. They are easily over fed.
