What do you do on vacation?

In Oakland CA there was the Vivarium, where for a reasonable price you could board your reptiles for the week you were out of town. Now I live in L.A., need to start traveling for work, and can't find anywhere that will board reptiles (or a tarantula). What do you do when you go out of town? My kids need to be looked after everyday (OK not the tarantula, crickets drop from the sky once a week as far as she's concerned, but she does like to be kept moist). My family and friends think my animals are creepy, so that's not really an option. I want somewhere (or someone) knowledgeable and reliable. I would prefer to take them somewhere, rather than have someone in my house. Any suggestions? What do you do?

I have snakes, so its not an issue. I can be gone up to a week with no real worries...even spilling a water bowl on day one would not cause a snake to become dehydrated enough to worry. I'm assuming you have lizards and such. Check at you local pet store (or vet) for an in home pet sitting service. There are three or four different ones advertizing on a bullitin board in our pet store, and we have a fairly small town. All of them seem herp friendly. Check references and qualifications...

if the tarantula is an adult or sub adult... it can go for 2 or more weeks without anyone looking out for it. IF moisture is a major concern.. have a water dish in the tank. And wet down half of the substrate really well. Cover part of the tank with plastic. That should hold humidity inside for a good week.. and the spider can go another week without much moisture. Some of my tarantulas.. I only water once a month.
