Finally...Rain!!!!

kensopher Jun 02, 2007 06:00 AM

I need to share my relief. It has been terribly bone dry here in my region of the Southeast for virtually all of this Spring. The turtles are basically aestivating, and haven't come up to breed, eat, lay eggs or ANYTHING(except the ornates, they love this). I'm not much for watering the outdoors artificially, but I have sprayed them a few times. It hasn't helped...they are parched! Now, FINALLY, we are having rain!! Thank God!

Thanks for readin'...I'm singin' in the rain...

Share your sediments,we are one state west and it was 34 days for us with no rain. We ran the make-shift sprinklers good once a week and everyone would come out and eat and roam but the next day gone again.

Last night it poured over an hour and everybody was out in full force. The worms and slugs took a beating. Dasiy had a big slug in her mouth when she pasted by.

Yay!

I put the sprinkler on last evening for a while: I'll do that once a week in the absence of a good steady rain. I really don't water any other part of the yard, so I don't feel too bad about the water use.

I palpated two of the girls this morning: both gravid...It's that time of year again!

Congrats on the rain. It's usually the opposite, you get plenty we don't get enough. This year we've had a lot so far.. I know how happy I felt when I saw rain, glad you're feeling it too.

We got 5 inches where I live in Florida!!! My boxies were going crazy! They were already excited all week because I made them a small pool and planted a whole bunch of new stuff in their pen, so it had to be watered a lot. Wow, did we need the rain. I hope it helped with the fires.

Roger that, Amen!
I was really concerned about our hatchling and now it turns out we have 2!! All our boxies were fairly active yesterday during the rain and 1 of the hatchlings was out most of the day and well into the evening. she got into one of the water dishes and was floating about very nicely. actually, a pretty good little swimmer.

one of the hatchlings is taking red worms the other does not seem interested, a little shy.
