Lost 4 footer

heavyopp Jun 02, 2007 08:38 AM

Hello all. I'm new here and have a problem.

I have had a 5 year old Cali King, who we have had since a hatchling, escape his cage. It's the 1st time ever! I know how he got out but I just can't figure out where he is. It's been 5 days now. I just can't figure out where a 4 and a half foot King snake could hide for so long. He was fed 2 pup rats 2 days before escape.

Any thoughts? Suggestions? I live in a 2200 square foot ranch in NJ with a full basement. The snake could be anywhere.

I really need to find him. My wife is having one of those women get together "jewelry" party next weekend. Sure would be hell if the King decided to show up then.

Sorry to hear about your snake. It's been real nice out here in NJ so he may have ventured outside.

Recently I had a Honduran escape and did the upside down tape thing. I taped duct tape upside down on the floor in front of every closet and every door in my house. after 2 days I found him stuck to the tape. Sounds crazy but it worked.

Also in my limited experience my escaped snaked tend to go down stairs rather then up.

I don't know if u like the women getting together at your place but if u left it out they would not come back again. Just a thought. Without knowing where you have looked its hard to say where to go next, but under the fridge, range, all closets and go through everything in the closets. Pier and beam house? He could have gotten out under the house in some way. Just some suggestions and I'm sure u have looked everywhere. Let us know how it goes.

My wife and I looked like mad the day we noticed him gone. Since then I've done sporadic searches with a flashlight at quiet time in the house.

My house is a single level with basement. The bad part is that it's made from cinderblock. Tons of places to hide is the King made is way into the walls.

I figured one of us would have see sign by now. I make my kids check their backpack every morning before school. Their 7 and 10. A 4 foot king would not be good in a NJ school. Definately make the news.

There are really only 3 sources of water for him to drink. I figure by next week he will start to get thirsty and venture out for water. 2 toilets and his water bowl in his tank.

I have always fed him frozen thawed mice and rats. As far as I know he has never killed his own food. Never even had to chase it. I was thinking that I would go get a few live mice and put them in a 2.5 gallon tank on the floor near his tank. Maybe I will get lucky and catch him hanging out near the food.

Hope for the best. Jer

After 6 days we have found our snake. My son was down in the basement, barefoot, and stepped in a fresh pile of processed rat. The king was only 10 feet away.

All is good.
