what are these??

frostypaws Jun 02, 2007 05:46 PM

The other day I noticed these tiny bugs in my ball's tank. I'm not sure if they're mites, because from what I can tell, they aren't on my snake and they are more tan in color. They were on her cave and a half log which I already threw out. There were some in her water bowl but I've checked her out for the past couple days and there aren't any on her...someone told me they could be from the substrate? I use cypress. In my corn's tank I have that "desert snow" by t-rex because I noticed the same thing in there a couple months ago and got rid of the aspen. My gecko is also next to my ball and there aren't any in there. Is it from the wood?? And what can I use that is similar to Provent a Mite, as I won't be able to easily get it?

cypress mulch does or can have bugs. Try baking it. I used cypress a few times (always returning to news paper) and i baked it for about an hour to an hour and a half. I cant remember the temp but it was just over 100degrees.

Should I get rid of them, or will they just come back no matter what kind of wood substrate I use? I guess they're harmless (?) they just bother me. I guess a good cleaning won't hurt.
