Wow - This is funny...

ECC Jun 02, 2007 08:11 PM

Kevin filmed a few clips from our Kingsnake hunt last weekend.

Go to this link -

http://www.eastcoastcolubrids.com/Videos/Videos.htm

There is a little (just a little bit) of rough language (sorry).

You need to right click and save the videos that are linked to your desktop and then play them.

The 1st one called "Planning" is pretty funny.

I just put another one up.

Again - the rough language (sorry). It's PHIL and not me doing the cussing!

I just added a video of some black rats that Phil flipped at an abandoned farm. I don't remember how they both ended up in my hands.

Hmm. Both videos crapped out on me here at work. I'll try them at home. Media Player 10 actually crashed trying to play them.

Sorry - They are working fine here.

I don't know anything about altering or editing video files...

Cool videos, Pete. Way to make me Jones for what's crawling back East.

The planning video is right up there with Spinal Tap's "Which way to da stage?" LOL

Folks having trouble viewing the videos should use VLC Player which plays it no problem (freeware):
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
It's a vastly superior video player than WMP.

Here's a photo of one at my folk's place near Harpers Ferry last summer.

That's a nice Black Rat snake. I live about 30 minutes from Harpers Ferry. Rat snakes are, as you know, extremely common here but it never reduces my thrill in finding them!

Thaks,

Peter

ECC Jun 03, 2007 04:42 PM

I think I worked it out.

I blended a few of the vids together and saved it into a smaller format. The whole thing is about 6 minutes but only 25 MB.

Some rough language but there is a good scene of Phil and I screaming at each other!

Go to the link and just click it.

Is it just me or is this "Team ECC" thing completely gay!?! Not that there's anything wrong with that!

ECC Jun 03, 2007 07:22 PM

That's good Tony.

You keep mentioning how much you don't like Team ECC / the Inner Circle but I am afraid that I made the decision, long ago, to never extend membership to you.

Sorry!

Don't let our wifes and kids know!
The whole Team ECC Innner Circle thing might be a bit much, but one of the guys on that trip doesn't even keep snakes or reptiles/amphibians as pets. Another had never been field herped before. The group of guys that Peter refers to as Team ECC share more info, theories, and years of experience, both in field experience and captive husbandry than most of the desk jockeys on this forum could dream of. Yeah, to some people, it might seem like a bit much. But who else on this forum, organizes 3-5 guys to get together and field herp, and learn about the environment that our animals live in? Yeah, herp society's
might organize a once a season trip, but what do you learn in one trip a season? Who else has gotten off of their duff and postsed a video of a herping trip? I know this one might be a bit rough, both in content and language, but hey it's a start!! One thing that is really starting to bug me about this forum is the elitist attitudes of some of the people on this forum. Believe it or not, this is exactly what Peter Jolles is making fun of with his Team ECC Inner Circle. With the exception of Frank Retes, most of us on this forum have less than 30 years experience with reptiles. The real funny thing is that most of the young bucks on this forum think they know it all already, even though they haven't learned many of the basics that guys like Bob Macken, Louis Porras, Bob Applegate, Lloyd Lemke, Frank Retes, and Laurance Klauber learned well over 30 years ago. For example a few days ago someone posted a question about how to get rid of mites. Many people responded, use Pro-vent a mite, which is a good product. When I mentioned that any product that uses 0.5% Promethrin will work just fine, and can be bought at Wal-Mart for $5 as opposed to $20 one of the regulars on this forum decided to mock my post by stating that he uses the dog shampoo, because it also shines up his snakes. I don't get it?
What do you people think guys like Bob Macken were doing in 1972 when they collected a WC Greybanded King covered in ticks and mites? Pro-vent a mite wasn't there to save the day? Basically
this forum has just become a marketing tool for a select few, and any good ideas, theories, and or questions are just mocked.
Well kids have fun!

So TRUE - too many desk herpers and trash talkers will not help this hobby...
And herp trips and experiencing herps in the field WITH other herpers... - Priceless!!!

Some people . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Bring it on down heya, Zee! Good to go 7-11 or so, want to hit the Gap and Sanderson as well, but several days east is good. Shoot me an email. Inner Circle, I am out of all circles and was from the get go. Being 44, I have 30 plus years, and all of it comes from the field. It is the same here as anywhere, some people just don't get other people. If half of any of us spent a day in the field each each other, we would most likely not think about the others as we do, unfortunately, and fortunately as well, people who don't field herp don't experience all but spend more time with their animals, coming up with some amazing herps. At least, that's what I think. Maybe you guys could think about the young kids that can see and hear your videos, don't think they aren't listening. Would you want your young children to hear total strangers like that? Showing the trip is cool, but,................Hey, who am I? I cuss like a sailor, but not on camera and not in front of the kids. The herps are the coolest part, why not edit for the general public? And I had mites once, used PAM and it worked, never let them in again, but had I known, I would have used some other product that was cheaper.

Hey Todd,
I hope you and Zee have a great trip, I'm jealous. It's been years since I've been to the south western U.S.. Find a couple of Celaenops for me, ok Zee. I do have to admit that the language on the video is very crass. I've talked to Peter about it and he is working on having it edited, or at least having the offensive language bleeped out. I know that I personally have very big issues that I need to work on, where my language is concerned.Especially when a camera is on. I personally appreciate the manner in which you stated your concerns about the video. I just hope the rest of us on this forum can learn by example.

I appreciate the reply, it was in excellent taste, I was worried about how it came across. I am for people, not against them. I wish I had a video camera to do some herp vids but a.) I am too stoooopid to learn how, b.) it is too expensive, rather put in the miles! and c.) I would have to bleep it too much myself! All in all, I would love to see the ECC Inner Circle post up some awesome eastern finds!

I have been keeping snakes for 37 years and most of those i spent field herping. I may have more field experience than everyone put todether on this forum with the exception of the names you listed. I actually inroduced some of the big name feild herpers of today to field collecting.

Just out of curiousty who would guess say has the most feild experience of the names listed? I know that FR is still doing it to this day. So I would pick him. But those pioneers on feild collecting and commercial collectors back in the day are just as impressive because they had to figure things out for themselves and did not have an inner circle club where secrets were given away. You had to work and earn a reputation through understanding the ecology and habits of snakes.. Today most techniques for finding certain species can be found gleening places like feild herping forums if one spends enough time there. Thats not the same thing. I could tell anyone where to go to find hard to find species and tel them exactly which rock to turn over and the snake is basically waiting for them there. Thats not feild herping IMO. You don't learn from doing things that way and an inner circle is just that. A tour guide.
