Don't let our wifes and kids know!
The whole Team ECC Innner Circle thing might be a bit much, but one of the guys on that trip doesn't even keep snakes or reptiles/amphibians as pets. Another had never been field herped before. The group of guys that Peter refers to as Team ECC share more info, theories, and years of experience, both in field experience and captive husbandry than most of the desk jockeys on this forum could dream of. Yeah, to some people, it might seem like a bit much. But who else on this forum, organizes 3-5 guys to get together and field herp, and learn about the environment that our animals live in? Yeah, herp society's
might organize a once a season trip, but what do you learn in one trip a season? Who else has gotten off of their duff and postsed a video of a herping trip? I know this one might be a bit rough, both in content and language, but hey it's a start!! One thing that is really starting to bug me about this forum is the elitist attitudes of some of the people on this forum. Believe it or not, this is exactly what Peter Jolles is making fun of with his Team ECC Inner Circle. With the exception of Frank Retes, most of us on this forum have less than 30 years experience with reptiles. The real funny thing is that most of the young bucks on this forum think they know it all already, even though they haven't learned many of the basics that guys like Bob Macken, Louis Porras, Bob Applegate, Lloyd Lemke, Frank Retes, and Laurance Klauber learned well over 30 years ago. For example a few days ago someone posted a question about how to get rid of mites. Many people responded, use Pro-vent a mite, which is a good product. When I mentioned that any product that uses 0.5% Promethrin will work just fine, and can be bought at Wal-Mart for $5 as opposed to $20 one of the regulars on this forum decided to mock my post by stating that he uses the dog shampoo, because it also shines up his snakes. I don't get it?
What do you people think guys like Bob Macken were doing in 1972 when they collected a WC Greybanded King covered in ticks and mites? Pro-vent a mite wasn't there to save the day? Basically
this forum has just become a marketing tool for a select few, and any good ideas, theories, and or questions are just mocked.
Well kids have fun!
