Picture & Question

deliriumpixie Jun 02, 2007 10:43 PM

Hi everyone. Here is a picture of baby Angus. He/she is about three months old (we don't know the sex yet). I have a question--Angus was in an aquarium with another gecko when we got him/her and they got along fine. Does this mean that both geckos were female? Or do male leos get along well when they're babies? I've read that most pet store geckos are female. Thanks for the help!

They can generally be kept together when young no matter what sex they are without fighting. I think problems usually only arise when dominate adults are competing for space. There is a lot of interesting information on this in the book "The Herpetoculture of Leopard Geckos". The book mentions an experiment where a breeding group of leopard geckos were kept in a single tank with several generations of babies hatching in the tank and growing to adulthood together with no problems. I highly recommend this book.

Thanks for the information. I've heard of that book--I think it's by the person that maintains www.leopardgecko.com, right? I've been wanting to buy a book about leos. Angus has been a great pet so far, and it's cute because when he's really relaxed and I'm petting his back, he gets all sleepy but he keeps one eye open! That's originally why I noticed him--there was this sleepy gecko looking out at me from the aquarium with one eye open!

That gecko's tail is looking mighty fat. Do you know about how old it is? The size of it's head looks like it may be old enough to sex..that or you have super tiny hands.

He's about 3 or 4 months old. It's good if the tail is fat, right? I want him to be healthy. I think that Angus might be a girl...But I don't want to hold him on his back to see because he's a jumpy little thing.

Yes, it is good if there tails are fat. That is where they store the fat from the foods they eat. I also recommend the book that was mentioned earlier about Leopard Geckos. It only cost me 7 dollars at a pet store.

Eeeerr.......... are you sure it's the same book? It usually costs more like $40.

My bad. The book I have is The Leopard Gecko Manual. It still has a lot of quality information. I just go look into there, if I have any questions. I find anything I need in there and cost me around 8 dollars.
